Weekly Photo Critique

Photography 24/7 runs a weekly photo critique of images submitted by readers.

You can view previous photo critiques in the archive if you wish to see what you let yourself in on before you subject yourself to a critique.

Use the submission form at the bottom of this page to submit your image for consideration.

What to Submit?

You can submit images from any genre of photography (landscape, nature, still life, portraits, documentary, wildlife etc.) as long as it is a non-offensive image. Your image should be minimum 750 pixels along the longest side and should not be larger than 1mb in file size. Please only submit JPG files.

When submitting your image please indicate in your message if you are a beginning, intermediate or advanced photographer, and also your name and where you are from (country). It can also be beneficial to the critique if you provide some brief information on what your goal was for the image and/or if it has any special meaning to you.

If available you are also welcome to include technical information such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings.

If you have a website, a flickr stream or any other type of online representation of your photography, please feel free to include a link and I will be happy to include this at the end of the image critique so readers can explore your work further. This is a great way to get some exposure.

Please do NOT submit an image on behalf of another person. You must be the creator of the image you submit.

Please note that currently only one image critique is published per week and therefore I cannot make any guarantees as to when – or indeed if – your image will be critiqued and published on the site. It all depends on the levels of submissions at any given time. However all images will be considered for the weekly image critique in order of submission.

What Should You Expect from the Critique?

The goal of the weekly image critique is first and foremost to share with the person who has submitted the image (and of course with the readers of the image critique) my impressions of it, and to provide any useful advice and suggestions to improving the image. You can expect honest, constructive criticism and encouragement.

Photography is very much a personal endeavour and certainly not an exact science. My impressions of any particular image - along with any advice or suggestions offered to improving the image – are therefore entirely subjective and therefore cannot be considered as the ’right answer’ because there is no such thing in photography. Instead you may like to think of the critique as a photography friend giving you some constructive feedback and a second opinion on your image.

Important Release Information!

Boring, but necessary. Please note that by submitting your image to the weekly photo critique you automatically release your image for publication on the Photography 24/7 website. If published, you understand that your image will be displayed on the website indefinitely accompanied by a written critique of your image AND that it may also be featured in the rotating slideshow shown on this page. Apart from that your image will not be used on the website for any other purposes without your specific permission and you retain full ownership and copyright of your image.
