“Beyond Beautiful”
Today’s image represents a small breakthrough for me with this project. It’s an image of a very old, much overused metal oven tray which probably should have been thrown out a long time ago, but we still use it and in a sense it does the job. But every time I wash it up I can’t help but think “we really should throw this thing out“.
Never have I looked at it and thought “I must photography this!”
This is what happened today thanks to my “At Home” project which has made me look at ordinary things around the home in a new and different way.
I’m thrilled that we never threw this tray out. How did I miss this beauty? I made a total of 28 different images of this tray which I edited down to 12 images in the first round and then finally ending up with this pick:

I liked several of the other picks too and I might be tempted to do a little spin-off of perhaps six images or so of this little series.
The metal tray is bascially black, but it took on this beautiful gunmetal blue colour cast in the late morning daylight coming through our kitchen window from a clear blue sky. Initially I was not too keen on converting it to black and white to conform with the rest of the project, but I must that I do like it as a black and white image too.
Lesson learned: beauty really is everywhere, you just have to look for it and ‘see’ it.
